Packing is Not for Wimps

When you have 15 years worth of office space to pack, you need a plan. We went with a sorting system that looked something like this:

  1. Essentials
  2. Wants
  3. Storage
  4. Give
  5. Trash

Our new spaces are modern and professional and small. There are benefits to minimalism and one of them is focus. Eliminating all the things that are not essential to our day to day operations was freeing.

And hard.

Since we do a lot of developing, we often need resources and research and reference materials. Not a lot of room up in here for that.

Alice’s office before…

Bookcases and cabinets are our friends in this case, however, so we made it work.

Once we had the essentials in place, we could add in the other stuff.

…and after!

All the other items we use to develop and teach and run a company got put in the storage unit.

Our beloved Literacy Workstations materials will get a comfy home in a corner of Hope’s garage.

Fortunately, we know a lot of teachers who like stuff for classrooms. We were so happy to be able to give to the people we love! And the best part was knowing that kids were going to benefit from our clean out. A piece of ERG continues in Arts Based Elementary, The Downtown School, Northern Guilford Middle, and many more.

And no, we are not scared of the trash. We knew we had to bless it and release it. Besides, does anyone really need Alice’s calendar from 2009?! We’re not sure how it even made it this far!
